For 10 years I worked closely with police, and I challenged a belief a student had that all police abuse their power - it's an important lesson in how your expectations create your results.

Had an interesting conversation with a Think and Grow Rich coaching student – who knows better – yet put his energy into a something that could only cause him pain and suffering.

He expressed a belief as fact that police officers are all on steroids and fixated on power and bullying people or beating them up – in general, abusing their authority and protecting their own.

I told him I’ve been around cops over the 10 years I was a newspaper reporter or editor and knew many officers very well, and they were all good people.

He also thought that the video cameras set up in squad cars commonly these days must only be used in rare occasions when the police are doing their jobs and not abusing their power (as absurd as that sounds, he really believed these things, for whatever reason).

He seemed surprised and wanted me to confirm that I didn’t see any cases of police brutality or any abuses of power during the time I worked every day on the police beat, and I knew two officers who were husbands of people I worked with or friends. I also used to have a thing about driving fast or driving “somewhat” aggressively before shall we say I mastered the way I’m creating my life, by becoming the master of my mind…. and had many firsthand experiences with flashing red lights and being on the receiving end of traffic stops.

Other than the one time that supports his belief when I was in college and bribed an officer through a mutual friend, where the gentleman later got into some trouble of his own after being videotaped having sex on his squad car with a prostitute…. I have had nor seen any issues with police other than them being professional, polite and carrying themselves respectfully and in a dignified manner.

I told our friend I bet it’s fewer than 2 percent of officers are as he has generalized all law enforcement officials to be.

Then I pointed out to him the story about a traveler walking toward a new town and meeting a guy walking from that town saying “you don’t want to go there, everyone’s selfish, they’re mean, no one offered to give me a place to sleep or a warm meal, it’s a bad place to go” and the traveler thanked the man for his concern yet continued walking toward the town.

A few miles later he meets another guy walking from the town who says “you’re going to love it there, everyone is really kind and charitable. They all took me in and made me feel very welcome. As warm and friendly a people as you will ever see!”

That’s exactly as it is in life, always:

“Our experiences conform perfectly to our expectations.” – Dan Klatt

Because I believe people are honest, respectful and trustworthy, whether they work in law enforcement or not, that’s exactly how the people I interact with are. My expectations continue to be proven over and over again.

Our friend, however, may have different experiences by going into a situation expecting the worst, which is exactly what he is then far more likely to find, instead of expecting the best.

Think about the expectations you have, and then the things that happen to you as a result – and become aware of the direct correlation.

That, my friend, IS what Think and Grow Rich and The Master Key System hammer within us, which is why both trainings are mandatory reading in my new “CarnegieCentre WealthChat Prosperity Intensive” that at this point is still free at WealthChat.com although I may soon begin charging $197 per month, which is what it’s worth.

Share your comments on these things in the “Think And Grow Rich Mastermind”, or post them here if you haven’t joined yet.

You're able to communicate far more effectively by keeping in mind the perspective of the other person, and remember, too, that they're most likely not thinking of yours.

This morning while walking, I saw Joan by the creek with her dog Sarah. Instead of the usual “hi” or “good morning” or “how’s it goin’”, Joan hit me with:

“Do you get any bites?”

My leg had been itching so my thought was, “Yeah, I think I got a mosquito bite behind my knee”.

Except that would have been my perspective, and that wouldn’t be within her character to be talking about. In a flash of a second, I realized she was asking me about my home being on the market.

“Two people looked at it so far,” I answered.

That was a far cry from my perspective, because I actually really like living here and may not even sell if the right buyer comes along.

Yet she wouldn’t know my perspective, because you might be the first person I’ve told that, too, unless I’ve shared that sentiment with my girlfriend. I don’t remember.

From her perspective, the “for sale” sign is prominent right on the corner, and everyone driving by in the neighborhood sees it vividly.

The point for effective communication and relationships is, as they say, to “get out of your head and into the head of your prospects” (or your girlfriend/boyfriend, parent/family member, friend, associate – neighbor) – and relate to them from their perspective.

Because most people are so within themselves, they don’t take the time to consider that, for example, you may not know what he/she is talking about.

For example, when you heard Joan ask whether I got any bites, you probably had no clue what she was talking about. I mentioned I had been walking by the creek so you may have thought she was talking about catching fish. Or I said she had a dog, although it wouldn’t make sense for her to ask whether I had been bitten by any dogs lately.

It’s important to keep this issue of the other person’s perspective in mind, because most people can’t see past it and take for granted, even, that you share the same perspective.

My girlfriend is typical in this, especially with close, intimate relationships. Sometimes she has said, “You mean you can’t read my mind?” when she realizes that, that moment at least, I was not in her perspective and didn’t know what she was talking about.

Yesterday, too, around the same point on the path, I was talking with Paul, who’s perspective politically was on the more progressive end of the spectrum. He automatically thought I shared that perspective, because it was his, and he projected it outward on me, as well.

So do your best to remember that most people do that.

They take it for granted that you’re like them, and know what they’re talking about as well as agree with where they’re coming from on the issue.

And when you’re talking with them, remember they will interpret what you’re saying – from their perspective, so anything you realize is dependent on your perspective, you’re then able to clarify and explain so they can understand it as part of their perspective.

….Did you get any bites from this?

Resources:

- We’re getting close to beginning the “30-Day Think And Grow Rich Video Course“!
Twitter technical issues require us to communicate differently, and you're rewarded by reading this post, through some important coaching and a valuable gift worth $197/month.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for following my Think and Grow Rich quotes and other personal growth wisdom and inspiration – I hope you are well served by them. In a minute I’ll give you a special gift to thank you for reading this post.

Because communicating with you in a timely way is important to me, I wanted to let you know that for some reason I get the “Something is technically wrong – thanks for noticing” error message when I go to Twitter.com, and also when I’m logged in and click “Home” – meaning I’m unable to Tweet or read your replies to my previous tweets.

Use this work-around to get your Think and Grow Rich Quotes while Twitter isn’t working right

(As a side note, I also do not see DMs because I just have too many to even open, more than 35,000 I will not see yours if you DM me.)

Please follow me through my other Twitter account, twitter.com/ThinkAnGrowRich – for some reason that account is working fine. (This happened before where some accounts on one server weren’t working. It lasted several days.)

I am able to retweet posts from the other account so I can still give you the Think and Grow Rich Quotes of the Day you have come to value and expect from me. I just can’t reply to any comments you share through the main account.

To reach me, until Twitter corrects this technical issue, please e-mail me at dan@CarnegieCentre.com.

I mentioned I had a valuable gift for you to thank you for reading this.

That gift is the “CarnegieCentre WealthChat Prosperity Intensive“ at WealthChat.com.

That gift, in fact, is worth $197 per month, and it’s yours at this time for free. It’s a set of videos that allow you to do the CarnegieCentre Apprenticeship at home, and follow along with the progress of Scott, who’s doing the Apprenticeship in the videos.

(Believe me, his issues, stumbling blocks – and successes – will be things you can relate to and you will also benefit from the coaching I give him.)

So enjoy this valuable Think and Grow Rich gift, and thank you for following me through my back-up Twitter account!

Warmly,

P.S. Notice the tone of this blog post, and how there is no sense of “oh no” or any negative feeling quality. Even though I take my responsibility as your WealthSensei very seriously and I’m used to being able to reach you whenever I want, the Twitter difficulty “just is” and so we calmly find another way to serve you, such as through this blog post and the back-up Twitter account.

They say “when one door closes, another one opens”. The point I want you to take from this is to never allow anything to take you off your place of Conscious Creation, or as I teach, your focus on only “that which gives you joy, inspires you and moves you closer to your goals, desires and dreams”.

Because you create your life based on what you’re focusing on, and how you’re focusing on it. And this is too important of an issue – your power – to use carelessly or unwisely by giving any attention to something you don’t want!

I’ll use his old air name, because he’s out of the limelight now and may not want his name in print.

Steve Owens had an appointment to meet with his mother-in-law for lunch while his wife was away for business in Singapore.

Instead of going directly to meet her, he stopped for a beverage at a Starbuck’s along the way, delaying him he estimates 15 minutes.

Steve’s quite thankful he stopped because ahead on the highway, about where he would have been if he hadn’t stopped for a jolt of energy – he may have been quite literally melted by a far more powerful burst of energy!

Because ahead on the highway, a truck driver flipped his gas tanker, causing a massive fireball which was so powerful it damaged a bridge and cell phone tower and melted several cars.

The truck driver was cited for speeding and making an unsafe lane change.

Steve had not planned on stopping for coffee although he said he had an overwhelming urge to get a Starbucks’ coffee.

Because he listened to his intuition, he may very well have saved his life.

This is of course a more dramatic example of how important it is to pay attention to your inner guidance and hunches or strong feelings.

Most of the time you’ll never know what might have happened if you continued going in the direction you were heading. Something wonderful may happen because you followed your gut feeling about something. Or something unpleasant may have been avoided. Or something you see or hear may inspire you in an important way or you may run into or think of an important contact or old friend.

Napoleon Hill talks about developing your Sixth Sense in “Think and Grow Rich” – it’s actually so important it’s a separate chapter (see Chapter 14, starting on Page 206 of the “Think and Grow Rich Manuscript & Video Course”). Also the importance of having Faith (see Chapter 3, Page 72) and trusting that the intuitive feelings are really inspired nudges important to your well-being and success in some way – as well as knowing the difference between “noise” or limiting beliefs and your intuition.

I’m grateful Steve has learned to trust that “still, small voice” that we all have within us.

How well are you trusting it? How aware are you of the way it guides you along the shortest and most direct path to fulfilling your Burning Desire? How careful are you to distinguish between intuitive hits and the common noise or talk from the restless ego most people have attempting to drown out that “still, small voice” meant to help them?

Let’s talk about these things in the “Think And Grow Rich Mastermind” and be sure to share the hunches you acted upon and what effect that had on you.

DanWealthChat

Hello My Friend,

How are you being of service?

Answer that on Twitter and powerful things happen – for you and for others, by putting it out there.

Before we talk about that, let me give you the quick background of how “aTwitterRevolution” came about.

I tweet quotes for the CarnegieCentre on Andrew Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, and myself. Follow me if you’re not, at http://Twitter.com/DanielKlatt

Today I was looking through old tweets that I wanted to reply to, and someone had thanked me for an important one:

COSMICEDICT RT @DanielKlatt so true thanks Danial “The ultimate work of each of us is to uplift, inspire and be of service.” – Dan Klatt

(I had forgotten that was my quote. I thought it was from Napoleon Hill.)

Reading that, my first impulse was to ask her how she is being of service.

Yet that touched off the inspiration for us all to start “aTwitterRevolution” and all share how we are Being of Service – AND – A Being of Service.

Let’s have fun with this!

Tell people how you are Being of Service.

And keep the [aTwitter Revolution] tag so we can all search on that and see how many people have joined our”Being of Service Revolution”!

Also ask others to read this post and retweet your tweet.

Why is this important for you, and how does it help others?

1. It focuses you. Things happen in response to what you’re focusing on and giving power to.

2. You’re meant to be of service – it’s within you to express and this gives you permission to do that. It’s also how you’ll be the most successful and happy, the fastest.

3. By expressing it, you put it into action. By declaring, succinctly, how you’re being of service to others, you’re subconsciously making the Decision to serve others in that way. Putting out that intention is extremely powerful, at a subconscious level for you, and at a superconscious level. Think of it as you’re a radio station and you just broadcast that signal to the world, so the right people can and will respond.

4. You’re able to then be of service in the way you have put out there. That sets into motion many positive things, such as you making a difference to others doing what you love, and who knows how much how you’re being of service will touch the lives of the people you’re serving, and how far that will continue touching the people their lives touch!

How can you and are you meant to be of service?

What is in your heart to do?

It could be connecting people with similar interests. Making people laugh. Inspiring them. Giving them joy. Helping them be more successful. Allowing them to reach more people with their message of hope. Helping them save money. Manage their time better. Raising an upstanding, responsible child (being a Mom as one’s way of serving is very noble and selfless, as any good one will admit).

Teaching others something that will enrich them. Helping someone else do that. Helping people live more comfortably, in better health – and preventing/minimizing pain.

Let me tell you a little story.

This morning on my daily walk I told a neighbor about the quote and how someone thanking me for it on Twitter triggered this whole “Being of Service” Revolution.

Kris said I could teach people to understand what being of service really is. I wouldn’t have thought to do that, because it’s such a part of who I am, I had no idea others may not be at that same point in their spiritual growth quite yet.

For example, he said people think going to work is being of service. He talks about the distinction this way: As someone selling water purification systems, he doesn’t go into their homes to sell them the new system, he goes in there to be of service to them, by giving them healthier and cleaner drinking water, which can improve their health and well-being, adding years to their life, possibly. He often also is there for them in other ways, having nothing to do with water, for example if they need guidance or help in some way – he is able to serve them that way, as well.

Everyone can do something to make a difference to others. How much you believe you can do is related to how much you believe in yourself.

It’s time for you to join the “Being of Service Revolution” and put out there how you are going to be of service.

Click here to call up the “IamBeingOfService” Tweet, and change it so it reflects how you’re participating in the Being of Service Revolution.

Thank you. I respect you for honoring how you’re meant to serve others and make a greater difference through your life!

By the way, in case you’re wondering how I’m Being of Service, it’s by “Empowering people to Think and Grow Rich”.

The fact that you’re completely exposed going through airport security raises important issues of self-esteem and how comfortable you are in your own skin.

This is an interesting post, not for your personal growth or to better yourself, at least in the traditional sense.

Just seeing the title of the link of this article/column and you’ll get the gist of it:

http://www.ktradionetwork.com/2010/01/08/inverted-body-scanners-show-naked-body-in-full-living-color/

It “bares” looking at (I know, that initially was an unintended pun, although after I realized what I said, I decided not to “take off” the quotes… or ’screen’ my comments

To “strip it down”…

Looks like the airport screeners, the TSA employees in a back room checking you out – in all your living glory – are being paid very well to look at nude pictures all day…. because they’re seeing everything.

It’s interesting to talk about because it forces us to think about how comfortable we are “posing” for people in the back room, as well as caring or not caring what they potentially could be doing with these “well-exposed” images of us.

Do you want someone snapping your picture as you’re walking through security and posting it on the Internet, so your posterior is there for posterity?

I’m not saying that will happen. I’m just saying we have no way of knowing what happens with our unauthorized “paparazzi” nude image.

This issue also gives us pause to reflect upon the issue of nudity, our bodies, and the whole “sex is sin” morays that have been used since the dark ages to control people. (Or if you don’t want to go there, then just think about what could be more natural than going through the airport exactly as you came into the world, completely naked!)

In other words, you had to be taught to associate nudity with shame or shyness or whatever associations you may have. I’m not meaning to imply these things are good or bad, just that they are. Most likely “they” will be able to sweep this under the rug and keep most people unaware someone is seeing their full-monty and very few will be the wiser. (And these greater issues will not come to the surface, so to speak.)

However, you and I would benefit from looking at them for ourselves.

For example my first thought was “I don’t care whether someone sees me naked, although I’m not sure I want some guy gawking at my girlfriend naked” when we’re traveling together.

Although at the same time, I have previously raised the issue of us going to a nude beach together, just to see what she would think of that.

That idea of a nude beach, where people have the choice to go or not, and in most cases whether they go bare, and how much, may be the solution to the airport “runway show”.

How about if they show what the person in the back room sees – up front and personal – for everyone going through that checkpoint to see?

Or, what if we take that a step further, so when we step out of our shoes, we also remove all our clothing – and have the TSA people nude, as well, so we’re all on equal footing?

(I’m kind of playing. And kind of serving as the agitator, to bring up important societal issues, which address the core of why post people do not enjoy the success and happiness then deserve and would otherwise have – self-esteem.)

In other words, the whole “beauty myth” obsession that gets so many people hung up on their appearances and ashamed of themselves when they feel they don’t measure up to the expected ideal people who buy into the beauty myth have.

That’s a HUGE thing for people to come to terms with (and let go of and blow right past that expectation).

Can you imagine the day when you walk up on stage and proclaim: “I stand before you, completely with no masks, bathing in all my glory and beauty – feeling confident and secure.”

And everyone cheers and applauds because you’re comfortable in your own skin.

That would be something worth seriously thinking about – and manifesting!

Warmly,

The focus of the world on the Kennedy family gives us all pause to consider the contribution we're all able to make to bettering our communities, as well as the legacy we're leaving to make the world better.

With Ted Kennedy’s death and funeral service focusing the spotlight of awareness on the families at the top of the food chain, an interesting question comes to mind.

Are the wealthy and privileged of today as focused on using their money to help the community and allowing it to be of service to the many… at least to the same degree they were back in the day when Andrew Carnegie felt it was his duty to empower the masses through endowing libraries all over the world?

This is an interesting blog post that explores that question.

It begs the question, “What constitutes ’surplus wealth’?”

I believe Andrew Carnegie would say any money more than what you and your children and your children’s children would need to live on is surplus.

That, for him, likely would not mean a $10 million estate for 16 grandchildren, because he believed money has the potential to corrupt people and cause them to not go out and contribute and be of service.

In other words, if people are given everything, they may feel they have nothing to strive for and would limit how much they’re able to accomplish on their own.

Interesting questions and issues to consider in your own life.

Starting with this one: How important is it to you to be of service to others and make a difference with your life?

How much of a priority is that for you… (and what are you doing about that)?

Also, how much are you giving financially, and how are you deciding the appropriate place or places to contribute to?

The example of the libraries we all can thank Mr. Carnegie for, which even today are helping millions of people give themselves that leg up is what I would consider where the bar has been raised to.

That’s the barometer we can use to gauge how significant our contributions are and how much of a difference we can make through our focus on community service and involvement.

The more you make that a priority, the more supported you are, and the greater the contribution you can make.

It’s quite interesting how that *always* works!

Think about these things and make your Decision, right now, about how much you’re committed to giving, and where you’re contributing it.

The “hows” for the most part will take care of themselves as a result of you making that Decision and putting your focus there.

That’s part of what we can all learn from applying Think and Grow Rich and living “The Success Philosophy” it has contributed to us and our own wealth.

The difference between outlandish wealth, success, happiness and fulfillment - and average or even mediocre success is how strong your desire is. Here we learn how to catapult your desire so it consumes you and quickly moves you exactly where you need to be.... the secret key to Andrew Carnegie's vast fortune, in fact!

I read an interesting message on Mike Litman’s blog about the secret that made Andrew Carnegie one of the top two richest people in history.

Specifically, that secret comes down to 7 words:

“An obsessional desire to render useful service“.

Shortly I’ll share the comment I posted on Mike’s blog to his message, and I’d like you to share your thoughts, and how one feels compared with the other.

Of course Andrew Carnegie is the person who commissioned Napoleon Hill to devote at least 20 years of his life to compiling “The Success Philosophy”, the way anyone can become as wealthy as he or she desires

That, in fact, is ‘The Carnregie Vision”, which IS my “obsessional desire” to fulfill…. through YOUR results!

This is what I posted on Mike’s blog….

Thank you for this truly important message, Mike.

Interesting to note the difference between what Napoleon Hill teaches and Andrew Carnegie teaches.

It may be the same message, although Andrew Carnegie conveys it with such strength, and power, and ability to influence people and make it hit….

Well, let’s just say it’s clear why is legacy stands so strong still today!

In the way of comparison or contrast, Napoleon Hill talks about “obsessional desire” as “the white heat of desire”.

Sure it sounds good. And is a visual metaphor that’s easy to remember.

And it expresses the idea clearly.

It still does not resonate with the same level of juice as “obsessional desire” does.

Interesting to note the similarities…. and yet, the differences, between “The Original” and the “Second Generation Copy”, in a manner of speaking.

Warmly,

Last time I went grocery shopping, I only bought one thing, a bag of black grapes, my favorite.

They used to be available all the time, until about two or three months ago they disappeared and when I asked the grocer said they hadn’t heard. A few weeks ago they said they were coming soon, and when I saw them, I grabbed a bag and went to the checkout and paid.

It cost like $9.08.

At first I didn’t think much of it, or maybe I didn’t even notice how much the bill was.

Then as I was walking out it hit me: “Wait a minute, $9 for grapes? Isn’t that kind of a lot of money… did I get overcharged?”

I paused outside the store, because it dawned on me I thought the sign said $2 a pound. I looked at the receipt and turns out I bought 3 pounds of grapes, so I thought I must have been over-charged $3.

Or another way of looking at it might be to say I overpaid 50%, apparently.

I’m standing just outside the doors thinking, “Do I go in and make an issue of this with a manager or do I let it go, knowing my time is worth more than the $3 I overpaid?”

I was set to walk away and forget about it, yet the feeling of being ripped off by this, my favorite grocery store didn’t sit well with me. And I didn’t want to mistrust them or start shopping elsewhere because they have friendly staff who go out of their way to be helpful (they provide the best customer service which is why I shop there – a useful lesson for your business, as well, hint, hint).

(Usually I don’t notice prices, so I can’t say how there’s generally match the other four big stores I could choose, instead.)

[Another key distinction of the wealthy, by the way, we don't shop on price. We value convenience and being able to get in and get out quickly more than price, because our time is what's more valuable than money.]

Think about that one.

Mostly because I didn’t want to feel like my favorite store could not be trusted, I decided to go back in and see whether in fact I was ripped off, or perhaps I was mistaken.

They had the sign for the green grapes to the left, $1.98 (turns out it was per pound, not by the bag as I perhaps carelessly assumed; fair enough, even if that makes grapes more expensive than other fruit, it’s what I enjoy eating).

On the left were the green grapes. Next to them were the black grapes, first time I had seen them in a copule months. To the right of them were the red grapes. About two inches from the sign giving the price of the green grapes was the sign saying that red grapes were also $1.98 (per pound).

As soon as I saw there was no price for the black grapes I realized I had made an assumption by not looking closely, by seeing “great, my black grapes are back”, looking at the price nearby and seeing $1.98 and going right to the check-out.

Was I deceived. Perhaps. Was it my own fault for not looking more closely? Absolutely.

Did I have any problem with the grocery store at that point? Not at all.

Was I happy I paid $9.08 – 50% more – for the grapes I wanted, instead of the red or green grapes? You bet I was!

I would much rather have what I really want than something that’s only “OK” to me or not very good. That’s what the black grapes are for me… even if they cost significantly more.

Will I buy them again? Probably tomorrow, in fact – regardless of the price difference, it’s still well worth it to me to have what I want.

[Another useful point about your business - your people will gladly pay more to know they're getting what they truly want. Please don't commoditize your services or products to match the prices or even beat them, of the other guys, who focus on quantity, not quality. By you differentiating yourself as "Excellence", your people will appreciate and respect that, and happily pay you even the 50% more I paid. Because you're giving them exactly what they want, and they will not, nor should they, settle for anything less.]

What would you have done when you thought you were charged 50% too much for the grapes?

What key take-aways did you get from this conversation?

Warmly,
