BWF News

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) recently honored the memory of Den-Li Chen, the visionary founder of VICTOR, a renowned sports equipment company. Chen, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 89, played a pivotal role in establishing one of badminton’s most esteemed brands.

VICTOR: A Legacy of Excellence in Badminton

In the late 1960s, Chen founded VICTOR as a shuttlecock manufacturing company. Over the years, the brand has grown exponentially and gained immense respect within the badminton community. Today, VICTOR stands as a prominent sponsor of major badminton events and boasts an impressive roster of brand ambassadors, including Tai Tzu Ying, Anders Antonsen, Lee Zii Jia, Mohammad Ahsan, and Hendra Setiawan.

VICTOR’s Journey to Success

In 1968, Chen established VICTOR, and eight years later, the company opened its first racket factory. Throughout its history, VICTOR has achieved significant milestones, such as introducing its first carbon racket and apparel in 1983, launching a footwear line in 1992, and establishing partnerships with the Korean national team in 2009, the Malaysian team in 2015, and Badminton Denmark in 2017.

Driven by Chen’s unwavering commitment to research and development, VICTOR has become synonymous with excellence in the world of badminton. Chen’s vision was rooted in constantly striving for improvement and innovation within the sport.

Chen’s Philosophy and Vision for VICTOR

Reflecting on his five-decade-long dedication to badminton, Chen shared his philosophy, stating, “Since its inception, VICTOR has never stopped pursuing excellence. I am fully aware that in order to achieve anything close to perfection, we must continuously improve and innovate in our sport. With this in mind, we have poured our hearts into building VICTOR into what it is today.”

Chen considered the shuttlecock, with its 16 feathers, as the foundation of his dreams. He believed that each feather carried the dreams of shuttlers, and it was VICTOR’s mission as a leading international badminton equipment brand to turn those dreams into reality.

BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer recognized Den-Li Chen’s immense contributions to the growth of badminton worldwide. Høyer expressed his condolences to Chen’s family and praised him for building VICTOR into one of the most recognizable brands in badminton, which has played a significant role in supporting the sport globally.
