Malaysian Players Shine in the Victor China Open 2013

The second round of the Victor China Open 2013 showcased the impressive form of Malaysian players. Despite the absence of Men’s Singles top seed Lee Chong Wei, his younger team-mates displayed exceptional skills and determination.

Liew Daren, a day after defeating French Open champion Jan O Jorgensen, fought a tough battle against Japan’s Takuma Ueda. The match lasted 81 minutes as Liew saved three match points and emerged victorious with a score of 14-21 21-17 24-22. Liew now faces an exciting challenge in the form of second seed Chen Long from China.

Chong Wei Feng, another Malaysian player, kept the country’s flag flying high by defeating Chinese qualifier Tian Houwei in 74 minutes. Despite losing the first game, Chong Wei Feng quickly regained control and clinched the match with a score of 14-21 21-13 21-16.

In Men’s Doubles, Malaysian fifth seeds Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong were unfortunate to be defeated by Russian pair Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov with a score of 21-18 21-18. However, their younger colleagues, Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong, continued their impressive performance. After defeating world No. 3 Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen from Denmark in the opening round, Hoon and Tan surprised Ko Sung Hyun and Shin Baek Choel from Korea with a score of 17-21 21-17 21-18. They now have a chance to avenge their seniors’ defeat by taking on Ivanov and Sozonov for a spot in the semi-finals.
