Today, Carnegiecentre proudly stands in solidarity with Peace and Sport’s annual observance of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. This day, now in its ninth year, celebrates the positive and constructive power of sports in building a more peaceful and inclusive society.

Through the #WhiteCard campaign, Peace and Sport unites the sporting world, governments, and civil societies to honor the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. In recent years, BWF athletes have actively participated in this campaign.

The 2022 #WhiteCard campaign encourages us all to use sports as a pathway to peace, sending a message of unity and global solidarity. Despite the challenges faced by the badminton community due to the global pandemic, BWF remains committed to promoting the spirit of peace and sport.

In 2019, BWF hosted a charity coaching clinic for underprivileged children in Kuala Lumpur, aligning with the #WhiteCard campaign. This initiative showcased the dedication of BWF to supporting Peace and Sport, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2018.

This year’s core message, “Securing a Sustainable and Peaceful Future for All: The Contribution of Sport,” emphasizes the role of sports in advancing human rights and sustainable development. It aims to shed light on the inspiring stories of individuals and beneficiaries who have experienced the positive impact of sports worldwide.

Swiss Badminton will be hosting the “It’s Shuttle Time For Peace” project, starting on April 7. This initiative provides free and regular training to Ukrainian children who have fled their country due to the ongoing conflict. The project intends to assist up to 40 percent of Ukrainian refugees under the age of 18 currently residing in Switzerland.

To further support the cause, Swiss Badminton will also organize a tournament on April 30 for the participants of the project, highlighting the positive influence of sports on individuals worldwide.

David Cabello, Chair of the BWF Development & Sport For All Committee, expressed his appreciation for Swiss Badminton’s effort, stating, “Badminton provides a simple introduction to sports, and its versatility allows for opportunities for children from all backgrounds.”

To participate in this meaningful campaign, all you need to do is take a picture of yourself holding up a white card and share it on your social networks using the hashtag #WhiteCard and tagging @peaceandsport.
