The dream final everyone was hoping for at the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships was thwarted when Shi Yuqi defeated both Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei. The 21-year-old Chinese player surprised the crowd at the Barclaycard Arena with his amazing performance, beating Lin Dan 24-22 21-11 to secure a spot in the final against top seed Lee Chong Wei.

In the close opening game, Lin seemed to have the upper hand with a 20-18 lead. However, Shi Yuqi remained composed and seized the opportunity to secure the biggest triumph of his career. Shi expressed his joy after the match, stating that he was delighted to have reached the All England final and beaten Lin Dan. He acknowledged that Lee Chong Wei had superior capabilities and speed, but he was determined to give his best in the final.

Meanwhile, Lee Chong Wei, who had been doubtful about participating in the tournament due to an injury, made a remarkable comeback in his semi-final match against Chou Tien Chen. After losing the first game, Lee settled into a good rhythm and displayed his trademark skills to win the match 10-21 21-14 21-9. The crowd cheered every shot of Lee, who expressed his happiness about reaching the final despite not being fully fit.

In the Women’s Singles category, Tai Tzu Ying, the top seed and world No.1, secured her place in the final by defeating Sung Ji Hyun 11-21 21-14 21-14. She showcased her exceptional racket wizardry and powerful smashes, which proved too much for her Korean opponent. In the final, Tai will face Ratchanok Intanon, who defeated Akane Yamaguchi 22-20 21-16 in a tight contest. Both players are known for their natural skills, making it difficult to predict the eventual winner.

In the mixed doubles category, Chinese duo Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong overcame Chris Adcock and his partner’s broken racket string to win a thrilling match 19-21 21-12 22-20. They will face Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying in the final. Chan and Goh became the first Malaysian pair to reach the All England Mixed Doubles final. Goh, who has battled knee injuries, expressed her happiness about being in the final.

The Men’s Doubles final will be contested between Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen from China and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo from Indonesia. In the Women’s Doubles final, Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl from Denmark will take on Chang Ye Na and Lee So Hee from Korea.
