Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari achieved a remarkable victory at the Yonex Open Chinese Taipei, defeating World champions Yu Yang/Wang Xiaoli. This win marked the Indonesian Women’s Doubles pair’s first tournament victory in over a year and their second consecutive triumph over the formidable Chinese pair.

In Men’s Singles, Lin Dan continued his near-perfect comeback saga by clinching his fourth title in just three months. Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun emerged as the Women’s Singles champion, while China’s Liu Yuchen/Yu Xiaohan and Indonesia’s Andrei Adistia/Hendra Aprida Gunawan secured the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles titles, respectively.

Yu Yang, a Women’s Doubles great, made a noteworthy comeback after a three-month absence from the circuit. Despite making it to the final with her partner Wang Xiaoli, the pair was unable to overcome the challenge posed by Polii and Maheswari, losing 21-18 21-11. The Indonesians had previously suffered defeats in straight-games against Yu/Wang but managed to turn the tide with a thrilling victory at the Yonex French Open last year. They carried this momentum forward and secured a resounding victory in the second game after a closely contested opening game.

Polii and Maheswari, seeded fourth, showcased their prowess by defeating top contenders Korea’s Ko A Ra/Yoo Hae Won (quarter-finals) and China’s Tang Yuanting/Huang Yaqiong (semi-finals) before achieving one of the biggest wins of their career against the reigning World champions.

Lin’s victory in the Men’s Singles final marked his fourth title in five individual tournaments since his comeback after an eight-month self-imposed exile. In the final, he defeated second seed Wang Zhengming 21-19 21-14, comfortably countering his younger compatriot’s challenge. This triumph added to Lin’s record of two Grand Prix Gold victories since his return to the circuit in mid-April this year, with the China Masters GPG being his first.

Another notable participant in the tournament was Indonesia’s fifth seed Simon Santoso, who had an impressive run but lost a thrilling match in the third round against Hong Kong’s Wei Nan. Wei continued his exceptional performance by defeating fourth seed Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam in the quarter-finals, but his journey came to an end against Wang Zhengming in the semi-finals.

The Women’s Singles top seed, Sung Ji Hyun, had a dominant campaign, winning the title without dropping a single game. She defeated China’s Liu Xin 21-13 21-18 in the final. The early rounds witnessed a surprising exit of third seed Tai Tzu Ying to Indonesia’s Adrianti Firdasari in the second round. Hsu Ya Ching, also from Taiwan, delighted the local fans by reaching the semi-finals but couldn’t overcome Sung’s challenge.

Indonesia’s success continued in the Men’s Doubles category, with the pair of Andrei Adistia and Hendra Aprida Gunawan capturing their first significant title together. They defeated China’s Junhui Li/Liu Yuchen in a thrilling three-game match, securing Indonesia’s second title of the day. Adistia and Gunawan faced tough challenges in their earlier rounds, while Li/Liu had a relatively smooth journey to the final.
