BWF News

Skill, luck, and sheer desire propelled Tai Tzu Ying to an unexpected place in the Women’s Singles showdown of the BWF World Superseries Finals. The Chinese Taipei player, beloved by Malaysian badminton fans, fought her way back from the brink of defeat to a thrilling victory over Wang Shixian of China, a rival she had never beaten before.

The match, which spanned 77 minutes, was an extraordinary display of determination and skill. Tai rallied from three match points down in the third game to secure a 15-21, 21-19, 22-20 victory. The crowd inside Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium was treated to the match of the tournament, and they were rewarded for their support with an unforgettable performance.

Tai’s parents, Hu Jung and Tai Nan Kai, anxiously watched courtside as their daughter staged her incredible comeback. After the match, Tai expressed her disbelief at making it to the final, having qualified in ninth place for the Superseries Finals. She credited the crowd for their role in her win, noting that badminton is more popular in Malaysia than in her home country of Taipei.

In the final, Tai will face world No. 1 and Olympic champion, Li Xuerui of China. Despite facing a formidable opponent, Tai is determined to give her all on the court.
