At the Spanish Para Badminton International 2023, Daiki Kajiwara showcased his skills and emerged victorious in two finals. His consistent approach led him to ace both matches effortlessly.

Doubles Domination

Kajiwara, alongside his partner Hiroshi Murayama, dominated the WH1-WH2 men’s doubles final against Homhual Jakarin/Junthong Dumnern, winning in straight games with a score of 21-8 21-12. After the triumph, Kajiwara expressed his joy, stating, “Wow, that was so much fun out there.”

In the pursuit of his second trophy, Kajiwara faced veteran Kim Jungjun. However, for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion, the focus was on savoring the experience. Kajiwara triumphed with a score of 21-14 21-11, emphasizing the importance of having a good time. He said, “Win or lose, I don’t mind because I’m having the time of my life. Against Kim, you have to be 100% your best. Athletes like him always make me want to try harder and play better. I’m constantly looking to improve myself. I believe Japanese miso soup fuels my success.”

Pilar Jaurequi’s Double Victory

Pilar Jaurequi Cancino also achieved a remarkable feat by winning both her finals in straight games. In the women’s singles final, she faced Yuma Yamazaki, a rematch of the 2022 World Championships. Jaurequi emerged victorious with a score of 21-15 21-19. Expressing her emotions after the medal ceremony, she stated, “Last year, I didn’t make it to the finals at this tournament, but I’ve dedicated a lot of hard work to the sport I love. I’m feeling all kinds of emotions right now.”

With back-to-back tournaments in Spain, including the upcoming Spanish Para Badminton International Toledo 2023, Jaurequi highlighted the importance of being thoroughly prepared. She said, “These are two crucial tournaments, and I wanted to equip myself with all the necessary skills.”

In the mixed doubles final, Jaurequi paired up with Yuri Ferrigno, and together they secured a win against Sooyoung Yu/Hyun Ah Kwon with a score of 23-19 21-19.

Sarina Satomi’s Success

Sarina Satomi, representing Japan, also etched her name in the tournament’s history by claiming two titles. She triumphed in the WH1-WH2 women’s doubles with Yamazaki, defeating Cynthia Mathez/Ilaria Renggli with a score of 21-12 21-13. Satomi further secured victory in the WH1 women’s singles, overpowering Belgian player Man-kei To with a score of 21-13 21-10.

In the nail-biting WH1 singles final, Choi Jung Man denied Hiroshi Murayama the double, winning the match with a score of 22-20 21-19.
