Welcome to the Victor Korea Open Superseries Premier

The badminton season is off to an exciting start with the Victor Korea Open Superseries Premier at the SK Handball Stadium. This tournament promises high-quality action from the top players in the world, with the exception of two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan. Despite his absence, fans can still expect an intense week of competition.

Men’s Singles: Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long Take the Stage

In the Men’s Singles category, all eyes will be on world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia and his principal opponent Chen Long from China. These two players have consistently delivered thrilling matches in the past and are expected to do the same in this tournament. However, there are other players who can also cause some damage, especially if the top guns are still rusty early in the season.

Lee Chong Wei will face off against the talented Chinese youngster Wang Zhengming, adding an extra layer of excitement to their match. China has a strong presence in both singles draws, with six Chinese players in the Men’s Singles main draw. Fourth seed Du Pengyu is the dark horse to watch out for. He reached four major finals last year and is eager to start 2013 on a positive note. Other notable qualifiers include Lee Dong Keun from Korea, Pisit Poodchalat from Thailand, and Yong Zhao Ashton Chen from Singapore.

Non-Chinese players Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia, Parupalli Kashyap from India, and Viktor Axelsen and Hans-Kristian Vittinghus from Denmark are also hopeful to make it to the business end of the tournament.

Women’s Singles: Li Xuerui Leads the Pack

Women’s Singles is equally exciting, with powerhouse Li Xuerui from China leading the pack. Li had an outstanding year in 2012, winning eight tournaments and is currently on a 15-match unbeaten streak. She is the overwhelming favorite for the title. Li’s compatriots Wang Yihan, Wang Shixian, Jiang Yanjiao, and Han Li will pose a significant challenge to the non-Chinese opposition. However, India’s Saina Nehwal, who defeated several Chinese players last year, could emerge as a strong contender. Another intriguing match to watch is between Nehwal’s compatriot PV Sindhu and Lindaweni Fanetri from Indonesia in the first round.

Exciting Highlights
